Cleaning an iSOC Unit

iSOC units may appear dirty but still work perfectly.  Iron build-up most often will not affect iSOC performance.

Do not clean iSOC unit with soap.  Soap will turn the iSOC hydrophilic instead of hydrophobic thus causing the iSOC to leak.

To clean an iSOC unit, follow one of the below suggestions while maintaining gas flow to the iSOC at all times (gas flow will help ensure dirt or water does not enter the barb fitting during cleaning and help prevent accidental flooding):

  • Rinse the iSOC unit off with low pressure water.  This can be done with water spray from a hand pump sprayer.
  • Soak the iSOC unit in a diluted solution of Muriatic Acid (1 part industrial strength Muriatic Acid to 4 parts water) following proper safety procedures until clean in appearance (approximately 10-20 minutes).  Place iSOC unit in a bucket of water and rinse thoroughly.  Note:  Do not scrub the stainless steel iSOC case with a brush or poke anything into side holes.  This may damage the internal micro-porous hollow fiber thus causing a leak.
