Nutrimens® Liquid
Nutrient-Rich Soluble Electron Donor
Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
Product Overview
Nutrimens® Liquid is an all-natural bio-fermentation product designed to enhance microbial activity and efficiency during bioremediation of contaminated groundwater, soils, and treatment systems. It is produced during the anaerobic fermentation of an unmodified strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and contains fermentation products, residual yeast cells and fragments, and the nutrient-rich media used during fermentation.
Nutrimens® Liquid provides reduced carbon, along with a broad spectrum of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and metabolites, supporting robust microbial growth and improved contaminant degradation. Its passive, biologically driven mode of action offers a cost-effective alternative to active engineered treatment systems.
Technical Basis
Microbial Nutrition and Reduced Carbon
Nutrimens® Liquid supplies readily bioavailable carbon and essential micronutrients required for sustained microbial metabolism. Unlike simple substrates or isolated yeast extracts, Nutrimens® contains a complex mixture of soluble sugars, proteins, peptides, vitamins, and extracellular metabolites that support diverse microbial communities.
Bench- and field-scale studies have shown that this balanced nutrient profile:
- Enhances bioremediation kinetics
- Improves electron donor utilization efficiency
- Reduces overall remediation time
pH Stability and System Performance
At appropriate application rates, Nutrimens® Liquid has been shown to help maintain circumneutral pH, reducing the risk of inhibitory acidic conditions that can slow biodegradation. This buffering benefit supports long-term biological performance without the need for continuous system adjustments.
Applications
Nutrimens® Liquid is used as a nutritional amendment and soluble electron donor in a wide range of remediation and treatment systems.
Typical applications include:
- Anaerobic groundwater bioremediation
- Enhancement of reductive dechlorination
- Support of microbial treatment of metals and priority pollutants
- Use in bioreactors and constructed wetlands
- Treatment of effluents and surface waters
Nutrimens® may be applied as a standalone amendment or used in combination with other electron donors and treatment technologies.
Integration with Tersus Technologies
Nutrimens® Liquid integrates seamlessly with Tersus’ remediation platforms, including:
- EDS-Advanced™ systems for anaerobic bioremediation
- EDS-ER™, EDS-QR™, and EDS-ME™ electron donor products
- Bioaugmentation cultures requiring supplemental nutrients
In integrated treatment programs, Nutrimens® Liquid enhances microbial health and efficiency, helping maximize the performance of primary electron donors and reducing the total amount of substrate required to achieve remedial objectives.
