TersOx Microbe Product Overview

TersOx™ Microbe PH is a bioaugmentation product consisting of a synergistic blend of preselected, naturally occurring microorganisms formulated to enhance the biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons and related organic contaminants in soil and groundwater.

The product contains a combination of aerobic and facultative anaerobic microorganisms absorbed onto a granular carrier matrix. These adapted microbial strains are selected for their ability to degrade a wide range of petroleum hydrocarbons, including crude oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, machining oils, hydraulic fluids, and other petroleum derivatives.

TersOx™ Microbe PH is designed for use in environmental remediation applications where biological treatment is appropriate and where accelerated hydrocarbon degradation is desired.

Technical Basis

Bioaugmentation with Adapted Microorganisms

TersOx™ Microbe PH combines preselected microbial strains sourced from nature and adapted for enhanced hydrocarbon degradation. When introduced into contaminated environments, these microorganisms supplement indigenous populations and increase the overall biodegradation capacity of the system.

The formulation includes both aerobic and facultative anaerobic organisms, allowing the product to function across a range of redox conditions commonly encountered at petroleum-impacted sites.

Carrier Matrix and Nutrient Support

Microorganisms are absorbed onto a granular carrier composed primarily of agricultural byproducts, which facilitates handling, distribution, and contact with contaminated media. Minor nutrient components are included to support microbial activity during initial establishment.

Applications

TersOx™ Microbe PH is used for biological remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater.

Typical applications include:

  • Petroleum-impacted groundwater plumes
  • Soil treatment via injection, mixing, or landfarming
  • Biopiles, bioslurry systems, and soil treatment cells
  • Treatment of oily wastes and hydrocarbon residues
  • Supplemental bioaugmentation during aerobic or facultative remediation

The product is effective on crude petroleum, gasoline, diesel fuel, and many refined petroleum products.

Integration with Tersus Technologies

TersOx™ Microbe PH is commonly used in combination with other Tersus remediation products to support integrated treatment strategies, including:

  • TersOx™ Powder for oxygen delivery in aerobic bioremediation
  • Nutrimens® Liquid for supplemental carbon and nutrient support
  • Other site-specific amendments selected to optimize biological performance

When used as part of an integrated approach, TersOx™ Microbe PH enhances biological activity while complementary amendments address oxygen, nutrient, or geochemical limitations.

Environmental and Biological Safety

TersOx™ Microbe PH is produced exclusively from Biosafety Level I (BSL-I) microbial species that pose low risk to personnel and the environment. All microbial species are listed on the U.S. EPA TSCA Inventory, and no genetically engineered organisms are used.

Each microbial strain is quality-controlled and tested for microbial count and absence of pathogens such as Salmonella and Shigella.

As with any biological product, individuals with compromised immune systems or known hypersensitivities should avoid direct contact.

Transportation

TersOx™ Microbe PH is classified as non-hazardous for transportation under U.S. DOT regulations.

Packaging

TersOx™ Microbe PH is supplied as a dry granular product in 25 kg bags, providing convenient handling and dosing flexibility for field applications.
